101 questions to ask before you get engaged.

It's a really great book and discussion starter and I recommend it to anyone who's been dating for a few months and thinking about potential marriage.

We ordered it a few months back to use as part of our weekly Bible study time together. Once the book arrived in the mail and sat face up on the coffee table, the word "engaged" seemed to pop off the cover, fly and whiz around the room and was kinda unsettling in a nervous, anxious and exciting manner. But after we cracked it open, it began to make sense... it really spurs a ton of conversation between the two of us and helps get the ball rolling on important topics, all the while learning so much about each other.

This morning we talked about how we were disciplined as kids and how we think we will discipline our own kids... we've also discussed the things we've learned about ourselves in previous relationships, our journey of faith, how do we feel we will maintain our individuality if we one day get married and so on.

Tomorrow is our 6-month anniversary!! I'm so excited and a little overwhelmed with gratitude to God and the beautiful way He continually provides. For me this anniversary represents a time well spent with an amazing, dignified, dilligent, talented, generous, consistent, hilarious, strikingly handsome, dedicated, loving, understanding, knowing, smart, God-fearing, steady, creative, adventurous, humble, strong, brave, and sweet man. He's my absolute best friend, we have such a blast together and enjoy the quiet lazy times together also :)

Aaaaaaaand, this weekend he's taking me to Pittsburgh to meet the family... for the first time!! I'm really excited, terribly nervous, and so thrilled that I'm finally able to spend time with them in person, learning more and more about DK...

Do you remember when you first "met the parents"? What was it like - were you nervous, not a big deal? Any funny embarrassing stories? Tell me, tell me!!

Hi Liz - I've been married for 4 years now, we dated for 3 before we got married. The first time I met my husbands parents was over Easter of 2001. I am married to a Hispanic man, so coming from a totally white family I wasn't sure what to expect. There were only 2 embarassing moments - 1 - his dad asked me to stir the Chile' on the stove (not chili like we eat when its cold, but the mixture of onions, tomatoes and jalapenos) well it almost killed me because the smell was so strong I could hardly breathe, I had to go out side to catch my breath! So the family got a good laugh at me. 2- My wonderful mom in law made breakfast (eggs, papas, beans, tortillas) so I thougth I would set the table, well mid way thru the meal I noticed I was the only one using my fork! I've learned since then how to eat using my tortilla as a utinsel!
Good luck meeting the parents! It will be great! Just be yourself, that's why we all love to tune in everyday and listen to you, because you're real!

My hubby is from Nebraska and we met here in Texas, so meeting his folks for the first time included a 12 hour car ride. Talk about conversation starters! But the one I'll never forget and to this day he denies, was when I asked him to describe the pictures his parents have on their walls, and he told me about each of his sisters' bridal portraits. He said there was a blank space at the end of the row for his some day, but he guessed it would just stay blank cuz he was never getting married. Ah-hem. Awkward! He also told me, as we pulled in to their driveway, not to be shocked if one of his little neices or nephews slipped and called me by his last girlfriend's name, because they all really liked her. Needless to say, we survived that trip, we've been married now for 10 happy years, and it was one of the best trips of my life! Have fun!!!!

Happy 6 months!! I think this is a great book for any couple to go through. I'm actually going to suggest it to two of my friends who are dating. They are far from engagement, but I think it is a good idea.

I've never been in a relationship long enough to have an official meet the parents. My one real relationship I knew the parents before we started dating. This is great, as you will find even more out about DK when you see him around his family. Enjoy the weekend and no stress because I know you will have fun.

I'm so glad to see you happy and know that one day God will bless me with a wonderful man also.

Have a great Tuesday!!

Congratulations!

Our only funny story is that when Mike flew me to Seattle to spend time with his family, he was still in a little bit of denial over how serious our relationship had become. He kept introducing me to people as his "friend".

Nobody believed that he flew his "friend" halfway across the country to spend time with his parents. lol
