bearded lady.

DK and I were waiting for a table yesterday morning at Baby Barnaby's, my favorite breakfast place on earth. It was a gorgeous day and because DK came to get me so early, I only had time to splash water on my face and run a brush through my hair.

So there we are, standing outside the place, folks around us waiting, sun shining, me looking sweetly at DK and he suddenly scrunches his face, tilts his head, reaches out to lift my chin and to my horror says:

"You have a whisker on your chin! That's funny!"

I was mortified. I raced to the restroom and looked for it, panicking internally, thinking "Truly everyone else in the place is going to notice too, they'll probably sell me off to the circus to be on display for all to laugh and mock, I should probably just go home." But instead, I took a deep breathe, enjoyed the beautiful day and ate the best breakfast plate ever.

Later on, we were laughing about it (once the problem was taken care of, heehee) and DK asked me "But wouldn't you rather me tell you?"

His question made me think about a few things. How he is the one man in the world I want to impress and make notice me. In this case, it's tough because whiskers are gross and masculine, far from what I want him to notice about me. Then I remember that he is my partner, my best friend, my greatest encourager and that embarrassing things will continue to happen throughout our lives. So I think we can either hide away in the bathroom and die of unnecessary embarrassment or we can laugh about and thank the Lord we have a man who loves us, Bearded Lady or not.

Your thoughts? Stories?

Hahaha! Too funny. I get chin whiskers every once in a while, too. Glad to know I'm not the only one!

I still NEVER let my husband see me pluck my chin hairs......if he walks in I quickly switch to eyebrows, like that unwanted hair is better in some way to random chin hairs!!

I just know my husband......he won't buy "feminine products" for me, was a head-of-the-bed guy when I gave birth to our boys, and will make an immediate bee line for the door if he happens upon any conversation that is too feminine for him.

Sounds like DK is much better at handling all the female mysteries than my man is!!!! Go DK!!

I think this is great ! James and I know and see the most unflattering things that our bodies may do. We can laugh about them and we are best friends because of it. I think it's important to be this way in a relationship. It's part of life. As we get older, our bodies change and hair shows up in places it didn't used to be, body parts fall from where they used to be...you get my drift. It happens to men too, not just us girls. I'm not a super model, nor will I ever be, but super models get chin hairs too. The only difference between them and me is the $$ to get it zapped out ! James and I can be so unglamourous at times in the things that we share with each other, but it doesn't make us any less attracted to each other, or any less romantic. So keep on !
