Don't forget to factor in/budget for cost of repairs.

I thought we were doing well with an 11 year-old Acura and a 2002 Jeep. At the end of the year, I sold the jeep (back to my son) and bought a 12 year old BMW (it was the next door neighbor's wife who passed away this past summer -- high mileage but in great condition).

I just finished analyzing our expenses for last year -- we spent $4500 in maintenance and repairs. That almost covers a $400/month car payment. Granted, that was the expenses for two cars but the bottom line is that older doesn't necessarily translate to cheaper.

I know you are looking at buying a "new" car to help with your finances. I just felt compelled( or is that convicted?) to share this with you. I don't know your financial situation but my husband and I teach a budget class at our church (fellowship of the woodlands) and one of things we teach is regarding spending on cars etc. In this study it states that the cheapest car you can own is the one you have now. Perhaps selling and buying a different car isn't the solution to this problem. Of course, like I said earlier, I don't know your financial situation so by no means am I judging you on this situation. I just wanted to share that with you and if you would like to talk sometime about your budget (we like to call it a spending plan) you are most welcome to contact me any time: heidimarlowe13@gmail.com
