Liz, I just wanted to share this story with you quickly..
For several weeks now I've really been digging 10th Ave North's song "By Your Side", it's very moving, however after this weekend it has a different meaning.
We've all gone through a really hard time this past weekend, but this morning on my way to school, getting to listen to KSBJ for the time since Friday before the power went out, the first song I got to hear was "By Your Side", and I cried all the way to school.
It reminded me of just how BIG God is, He took on death for all of mankind, He can certainly take care of a little storm named Ike ( albeit large to us).
The part that keeps replaying in my mind is the chorus:
"I'll be by your side, where ever you fall, in the dead of night, when ever you call, please don't fight these hands that are holding you"
God was truly holding us during the storm. We didn't suffer much damage to our house. We didn't even board up any windows except the sliding glass one in back!! Yet not ONE window was broke.
I complained all weekend about not having power, I was "inconvenienced" for a time. After our power did come back on I saw all the destruction Ike left, especially in Galveston, and I felt so ridiculous!
Seeing all the mayham Ike did, I know for a fact, God was by our side, things are bad but they could have been worse.
I have nothing to complain about. I still have my house, my car, my everything, even power now. My heart goes out to all who are still dealing with the effects of Ike.
Anyway, I just felt the need to share this because this song won't get out of my head!
Glad to know you guys are doing ok. God bless us all!
Liz, I'm praying for everyone in Houston! I read this in my bible the day Ike hit the Texas coast, but thankfully College Station didn't get hit too hard:
Psalm 107:28-30 (NIV)
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.
God is so big! Thank you for being so encouraging during this time. I'm praying for you!
